Our staff & volunteers
Our dedicated volunteers and staff are headed by Chef Ariq Barrett. He is the founder and visionary for the Kidz Meals on Wheels project. He is an award winning chef and philanthropist serving the Tri State region.
Our Vision
To provide an extra layer of support for children and youth to become healthy individuals. Creating great habits especially surrounding food and eating are essential for building the foundation of a well rounded child. Food is a major cause of most illnesses and diseases and if we teach our children at young impressionable ages how to create a well balanced diet, we increase the chances of them making good food choices as adults. Kidz meals on wheels has made it our hope and purpose to not only feed the children and youth but to also demonstrate what well balanced diet looks like. We also have dispelled the notion of good eating is boring and bland and emphasize that healthy tastes great! While we understand that there are many programs to assist family with purchasing food, there aren’t any that provides the extra support in times of crisis , struggle and need. Kidz meals on wheels will be there to support in urgent unexpected situations to be sure that the children and youth of Philadelphia don’t go hungry or make poor choices in an effort to feed themselves.
Our mission
Combating child and youth hunger in our communities by delivering nutritious meals in times of crisis.
The global pandemic highlighted the ongoing need for support for our children and youth. Children were going to extreme measures to feed themselves and making poor food choices when given the opportunity to shop and feed themselves.
While things like the P-EBT program was a help however most families did not properly appropriate the funds and allowed the children to shop for themselves. Lack of knowledge and teaching led them to spend most on snacks, sugary beverages and meals with high levels of fat, sodium and other ingredients that were not beneficial to their health and well being.
Our mission is to not only provide 2 great tasting healthy meals per day for families, but to also show families how to make better well balanced food choices. Kidz meals on wheels will bridge the gap between home and family providing children with healthy well balanced food options outside of the school setting.
